I haven't been inspired by fashion in a while. Since 2020 hit and the advent of "comfort" dressing, I feel like I've embraced the idea of function over fashion, and gave up on looking chic or trendy. The dopamine dressing moment was the last one to register with me post-pandemic, but not in a good way. It seemed almost too loud, bright and random to be aspirational so I never even attempted it.
However this year, particularly this fall for some reason, fashion is beginning to look interesting again. There are certain fall trends that have caught my eye and I'm starting to feel inspired by the "mood" of fashion once more. Some of those trends, with reasons why I think they're exciting, are presented below, along with links to some fashions at yesstyle.com that will fast track us into 2024's fall fashion era:

1. Green...Olive Green and related hues
There's just something about this fall colour that feels engaging right now. To me it is simultaneously earthy yet still sublime...evocative of forest glens, feather-capped princes and hidden faerie realms. It is being seen in long smooth leather coats and boots, suede totes and knit cardigans this fall.
2. Fringe!
Fringe is fringing this season. Again, not something I usually enjoy, this fall is giving Texas hold 'em vibes with fringe appearing on everything from jackets to accessories. I like to look for fringe on unusual items, like the leather bag the model is holding in the first image below. Wherever you wear it, make it long, full and breezy. Let your fringe flag fly!
3. Smooth Operator ...Leather
Leather this fall is smooth, gleaming and temptingly tactile. Not the artificiality of patent, the leather this fall looks rich and subtle. Even budget items impart an elevated look to an outfit my mimicking a quality smooth coating on the "leather" to make it richer in hue and texture. It's also lighter in weight, pliable and wearable. I really like the way leather looks this fall.
Cowls, turtlenecks and all things neck coverage are in, to keep you cozy and stave off the sore throat. The line is long, moving way up past the collarbone to make sure the neckline makes a statement, drawing attention to the face. Add layers over turtlenecks to make them even cozier, or wear your one-piece outfits chunky yet sleek around the neck. As stated before, anything cozy dressing is my vibe nowadays so I welcome wholeheartedly the trend to cover up.
5. Beautiful burgundy tints
Hues of wine, deep and light, are continuing to be popular through the fall season. Flatteringly deep and moody, this colour goes well to compliment the richness of the greens and leathers that abound. All in all the fall colour story this year is mature and sophisticated whilst visually exuding warmth and comfort. I am reminded of the many times in design competitions of the past, that designers were asked to create futuristic designs. They always tended to produce looks which were metallic and cold. Well where we are this fall, the wine-hued shades that are fashionable are certainly not cold, which may reflect a desire for a mellower, more optimistic future.
