Self care when depression makes you random

Image
Scattered. Discursive. Aimless. Rambling.  Has depression ever refused to let your mind settle? Has it ever made you physically and/or emotionally hyperactive? Do you find it hard to rest, impossible to meditate? Will your thoughts just not leave you alone?  Of course, you'll say. This is a common manifestation of depression experienced by most sufferers. Often it is hard to find something that holds your attention for very long. You may find yourself flitting from one task to another, unable to concentrate well or getting bored quickly. You get distracted easily. You forget things. It can be at the very least unproductive, and at the worst, a dangerous state to be in. Anhedonia. That is a word I learned for when you have lost interest in things that you used to love doing, mainly due to ongoing depression. It is one of the most shocking, unexpected side effects of depression I've experienced over the last ten years. For me, I never thought I would stop reading. It came as a s

"Find a black woman"

Image
Recently, I came across this discussion on social media. There's a video by an Indian man called "Dear Black Women" in which he discusses his beliefs, as influenced by his mum's advice that he received as a child. I'll link the video below for easy reference in case you haven't seen it: Note I got this video from the channel Daughter of the Most High  which is where I'm linking it from. Of course a lot of commentary ensued. Many were positive, but to my surprise at least, there were quite a few people, male and female, who did not appreciate what this guy had to say. Now as a synopsis, what he stated is that his mother advised him as a child to seek out a black woman if he ever were lost on the streets or in trouble. Her rationale was that in her experience, of all the different types of people, a black woman was the one most likely to come to a child's aid without ill-intent. She had grown up herself amongst black females who had accepted and assiste

To coffee date or not coffee date? That is the question.

Image
Vote in the poll below and see what others think...   Recently there has been a lot of talk around the concept of "coffee dates", and whether they are an acceptable form of dating or not. Many people, mainly women, have expressed their opinions on the matter - with arguably the majority of them preferring not to be taken out on a coffee date. Being a woman of a certain age (ahem) who finds herself still wading around in the dating pool, I couldn't help but follow the discussions around the topic in an effort to determine my own stance. Would I accept an invitation to a coffee date? Should any woman/man? Are coffee dates acceptable? To be honest, in my years of dating as a younger woman, I had never been asked out for coffee. In the nineties and 2000's, which were my dating eras, I don't think that was even a thing. It was typical for guys to take you out to a movie or dinner or both for a first date. Teens perhaps could be seen getting a booth at a specialty ice

Taylor Casey's disappearance - Are the Sivananda Ashram Retreat and the Bahamian authorities being evasive?

Image
Points gleaned from Brian Entin's latest report linked below. Allegedly:  There were no Missing Persons posters at the resort or the Bahamaian police station for Taylor Casey.   There was allegedly a "wall" of Missing Persons posters at the station - again none for Taylor Casey.  The mother found the  Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat | Sivananda yoga bahamas  personnel that she   spoke to to be "evasive".  They were given a "tour" of the facilities but allegedly "scolded" when they tried to take pictures.   The Yoga Retreat personnel allegedly cited "guest privacy" as the reason why the entire facility had not been searched.  View Brian Entin's report and interview with Taylor Casey's loved ones below: Care to leave me a tip or donation? Missing woman in the Bahamas - Find Taylor Casey!

Image
A 41 year old woman from the US named Taylor Casey, has gone missing in the Bahamas. She was on a solo vacation to an innocuous looking yoga resort named the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat . Taylor has been a yoga enthusiast for many years and so naturally she was excited to visit the center, telling her mom and friends that she was looking forward to learning new yoga techniques to teach to others. She went alone to a hugely popular vacation destination - the Bahamas - to a resort that was very high profile, having been endorsed by Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle brand Goop. She called her mother regularly and sent pictures from her vacation. She was reportedly not a person to stay out of touch for very long, nor to take hasty actions that would isolate herself from those she loved. She should have been safe. But she's missing, and noone, not the resort, nor the Bahamian authorities, can say why. The information I received was mostly gleaned from the report by Brian Entin for Ne
